Once Aidan and Erica decided that the wedding was going to be a small, nuclear family-only affair, it lifted a lot of the pressure of planning. They began to see the wedding as both of their birthdays, just doing what felt right and forgoing the rest. The two live in Los Angeles, and Joshua Tree was a nearby, beautiful destination that felt personal and representative of the time in their lives. The couple planned the event themselves, creating the schedule and taking each part of the day their own pace. The wedding was perfectly representative of them, with unique details such as both the bride and groom carrying colorful protea bouquets, a non-traditional green suit for Aidan, and Erica wearing her great grandma’s leather fringe jacket as the sun set over the national park. In attendance were the bride and groom’s parents, one sibling each, two photographers and a videographer. The videographer was a close friend of the couple who shot the event on Super 8 film – Erica and Aidan are both filmmakers and this felt like the perfect medium to capture their day. They edited the final video themselves. The ceremony itself was held in the desert under a bright blue, cloudless winter sky. Erica and Aidan walked out at the same time and did not pre-write their vows, preferring to have a conversation without an officiant. After the ceremony, the couple and their families went to the famed Pappy and Harriet’s for dinner.
